Songs and Fingerplays To Teach Children About Germs and Keeping
Healthy
Cold and flu bugs are everywhere this winter. Help keep your child
healthy through songs.
Handwashing is a great way to teach your children about personal
hygiene. Remind them to wash their hands before and after eating, as
well as after using the washroom:
Handwashing Song
Twinkle, twinkle little star,
Soap and water, wash and scrub
Get those germs off rub-a dub,
Twinkle, twinkle little star,
Look how clean my two hands are.
This Little Hand
This little hand is a good little hand,
This little hand is its brother,
Together they will wash,
And wash and wash.
One hand washes the other.
Tip: Have your child sing a familiar song while they wash their hands
such as the Happy Birthday song or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. It will
make the hand washing seem quicker and they will be scrubbing
for the right amount of time.
Germs are Everywhere
(similar to: If You’re Happy and You Know it)
There are germs in the air, in the air
There are germs here and there:
EVERYWHERE!
On your hands, on the floor,
On your toys, on the door!
There are germs here and there:
EVERYWHERE!
There are germs in the air in the air,
There are germs here and there:
EVERYWHERE!
In your throat, up your nose
On your skin, between your toes!
There are germs here and there:
EVERYWHERE!
The Sneeze
Touch your elbows
Touch your shoulders,
Touch your head,
Touch your knees,
Now…Pretend…You’re…
Going…to…Sneeze…
A-A-A-A-ACHOO!
Sneezing Song
I think --I am going to sneeze
I think --I am going to sneeze
If you sneeze, pass the tissue please....
Aaa- Choo, Aaa -Choo, Aaa- Choo!
Tip: To help germs from spreading, teach children to sneeze into a
tissue or their arm (bend at elbow), instead of their hand. Whenever
possible, have children wash their hands after blowing their nose. |
